Birth Certificate Issuing Authorities in India
For Rural areas, Gram Panchayat authority can issue Birth Certificate and for Urban areas, Municipal Council can issue this certificate.
If the Birth takes place in any Government Hospital or Institute, then the Birth Certificate of that child will be issued by the Medical Officer in Charge of that Hospital or Medical Institution.
What is the time period to apply for Birth Certificate?
The birth has to be reported to the authority within 21 days of the occurrence of the event. You can submit the Application Form to the Panchayat Authority / Municipal Council / Hospital authorities or can apply online using government website within this specific period.

How to Apply Onlne Birth Certificate Online?
Government of India started Online web portal for its citizen to Apply Birth Certificate Online and easily download it. Then step by step online application process is described here.
Step 1: At first visit the official website of Birth & Death Registration by Office of the Registrar General & Census Commissioner, India. The Civil Registration System in India is, crsorgi.gov.in and then click on the General Public Signup option.
Step 2: Now Sign Up yourself using your Mobile No, Email & Birthplace of the child and his/her date of birth.
Step 3: After completing these steps, you will get an email on your mailbox, containing your Username and Account Activation link. Click on that link and activate your account.
Step 4: Log in with your Username and Password. Then click on the Add Birth Registration from the menu.
Step 5: Now fill the complete online Application Form with the following details.
- Information of Child (Date of Birth, Gender, Name)
- Place of Birth
- Father’s Information (Name, Mobile No, Aadhaar No, Email)
- Mother’s Information (Name, Mobile No, Aadhaar No, Email)
- Address of Parents (current and permanent)
Completing all the steps Save the application form.
Step 6: Now you have to fill some Statistical Information about Birth Registration like,
- Town or Village of Residence of the Mother
- Father & Mother Information (Religion, Parents’ education level, occupation of parents)
- Other Information (type of delivery, age of mother, duration of pregnancy, Birth weight number of total child etc)
- Upload Reporting Form
Completing all the steps Save the application form
Step 7: A preview of the complete application form will be shown now. Check the application form once again and then click on the Submit button. After that, a system generated application form will be downloaded on your computer. Download that pdf containing a specific reference number.
Step 8: Now submit the system generated printed application form at your Gram Panchayat office or Municipality office (address will appear on the bottom of the print out of application).
