Indian Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) recently published a notice for the recruitment of 26,502 vacancies under Assistant Loco Pilot (ALP) & Technicians post. The Notice Number of this recruitment is Centralised Employment Notice (CEN) No. 01/2018. RRB ALP & Technicians Exam Eligibility & Online Application

Candidates who completed their Matriculation/SSC plus ITI/ Diploma/ Degree in Engineering can apply for RRB Assistant Loco Pilot Posts. For apply Technicians posts candidates must have to complete any one of this course Matriculation/ SSC plus ITI/ 10th+2 course with Mathematics and Physics/ Diploma in Engineering.

For apply Indian Railway CEN 01/2018 Recruitment, the minimum age limit is 18 years and maximum age limit is 28 years. Age relaxation available for reserved category candidates as per Govt. rule.


The Online Application for RRB Assistant Loco Pilot (ALP) & Technicians 2018 recruitment exam, already started. The last date of Online Application is 31st March 2018. Candidates can apply for this exam from any Railway Recruitment Board websites. Candidates have to pay Rs. 500 (Rs. 250 for SC/ST/Woman/PH/Minority/Ex-army candidates).

Mode of Exam & Questions Pattern

Indian Railway Recruitment for the posts 26,502 of Assistant Loco Pilot & Technicians Exam will be based on 4 stages as follows,

    1. First stage CBT
    2. Second stage CBT
    3. Computer-Based Aptitude Test (only for ALP)
    4. Document Verification

The RRB First Stage CBT examination will contain 75 MCQ questions with four alternatives. Total time allowed is 60 minutes. On this exam, there will be four subjects, Mathematics, General Intelligence & Reasoning, General Science, General Awareness of Current Affairs.

Candidates who qualify the Indian Railway First Stage CBT examination will eligible for Second Stage CBT. This Computer Based Test (CBT) will contain two Parts, Part-A and Part-B. Among this, Part-A will contain 100 Marks of MCQ questions from Mathematics, General Awareness on Current Affairs, General Science, General Intelligence and Reasoning subjects. Total time allowed for this Part is 90 minutes.

The Second Stage CBT Part-B will contain 75 marks from Relevant Trade Subject. All the questions will be MCQ type and total time allowed 60 minutes.

If you applied for Indian Railway Assistant Loco Pilot Posts, then you have to seat for Computer Based Aptitude Test after qualifying Second stage CBT. The qualifying marks on the Second stage CBT is 42 and there is no relaxation.

Candidates, who only applied for Technicians Posts, they don’t need to seat for Computer Based Aptitude Test, they will directly go for Documents Verification after qualifying the Second stage CBT with minimum marks 42.

Candidates, who will qualify all the above Computer-Based Tests, will call for Documents Verification and after that final Merit List for RRB Assistant Loco Pilot & Technicians Recruitment 2018 will be published.


The merit list for Indian Railway RRB Assistant Loco Pilot & Technicians Recruitment 2018 will be prepared on the basis of 70% marks weighted on the Part-A of Second stage CBT and 30% marks from Computer Based Aptitude Test.

Negative Marking & Cutoff Marks for RRB ALP & Technicians Exam

Negative marking will be available on the Indian Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) Assistant Loco Pilot & Technicians Recruitment 2018 Examination. For each wrong answer, ⅓ Marks will deduct from the total score. RRB already set a cutoff Marks for this ALP & Technicians Recruitment 2018 Exam. The cut of marks is General – 40%, ST/ST/OBC – 30% of the total marks.

Syllabus for RRB ALP & Technicians 2018 Recruitment Exam

The syllabus for RRB First stage CBT and Second stage CBT (Part-A) is given below. There are total 75 questions and each question carries 1 mark. For each wrong answer, ⅓ marks will deduct.

Mathematics: Number system, BODMAS, Decimals, Fractions, LCM, HCF, Ratio and Proportion, Percentages, Mensuration, Time and Work; Time and Distance, Simple and Compound Interest, Profit and Loss, Algebra, Geometry and Trigonometry, Elementary Statistics, Square Root, Age Calculations, Calendar & Clock, Pipes & Cistern etc.

General Intelligence and Reasoning: Analogies, Alphabetical and Number Series, Coding and Decoding, Mathematical operations, Relationships, Syllogism, Jumbling, Venn Diagram, Data Interpretation and Sufficiency, Conclusions and Decision Making, Similarities and Differences, Analytical reasoning, Classification, Directions, Statement – Arguments and Assumptions etc.

General Science: The syllabus under this shall cover Physics, Chemistry and Life Sciences of the 10th standard level.

General awareness on current affairs: Science & Technology, Sports, Culture, Personalities, Economics, Politics and other subjects of importance.

Basic Science and Engineering: (This Subject only for Second Stage CBT Part-B Exam) The broad topics that are covered under this shall be Engineering Drawing (Projections, Views, Drawing Instruments, Lines, Geometric figures, Symbolic Representation), Units, Measurements, Mass Weight and Density, Work Power and Energy, Speed and Velocity, Heat and Temperature, Basic Electricity, Levers and Simple Machines, Occupational Safety and Health, Environment Education, IT Literacy etc.


Indian Railway Assistant Loco Pilot & Technicians Recruitment Exam 2018 Second Stage CBT, PART-B questions will come from the Relevant Diploma/Degree Engineering courses. The minimum Cutoff Marks at this stage is 42 and there will no relaxation.
